156 reNEW state delegates heading to Duluth!

March 24th, 2010

At the conclusion of the senate district/county unit conventions which wrapped up on March 20th, the reNEW Minnesota campaign has elected a grand total of 156 reNEW state delegates!  We are now 6 state delegates over our goal of 150.  Thanks to everyone who helped to make this achievement possible!

reNEW state delegates hail from every part of Minnesota – rural, urban, suburban (our previous blog post broke 139 of these delegates down geographically).  30 of these state delegates are persons of color.  And our best estimates tell us that 35-45% of these delegates are heading to the State DFL convention as first-time delegates.

Below, please find our latest breakdown of the reNEW state delegates:

  • Uncommitted/reNEW:  80
  • Preferred Candidate/reNEW*: 41
  • At-Large/reNEW:  11
  • Automatic/Super Delegates:  8
  • Uncommitted (w/o reNEW)**: 16

* combined total of reNEW delegates coming out of Rybak/reNEW, MAK/reNEW, Thissen/reNEW subcaucuses
**reNEW campaign supporters elected out of plain old “uncommitted” subcaucuses

What’s next for the reNEW delegates is a series of five reNEW state delegate meetings around the state, beginning with the first in Bemidji on Saturday, April 3rd (for Northwest-area reNEWers) and concluding with a meeting on April 18th from 1-4pm at the Eagan Community Center with all 156 reNEW delegates and their alternates.  This meeting, which will occur the Sunday before the start of the State DFL Convention, will give our state delegates another big opportunity to engage in person with reNEW Minnesota’s 3 preferred candidates for Governor (Margaret Anderson-Kelliher, R.T. Rybak, and Paul Thissen) – all who have committed to attending that afternoon.  The event will also focus on state convention planning work.
